About Georgia...
Georgia was one of the original Thirteen Colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution. This was the last of the thirteen colonies to be established, in 1733. This is the fourth state to ratify the Constitution of the United States, in the 2nd January 1788. It was declared secession from the Union on January 21, 1861 and was one of the original seven confederate states. This was the last state to be restored into the Union, on the 15th July 1870. Georgia is the ninth largest state in the nation by population, with approximately 9,685,744 inhabitants of the 1st July 2008. From 2007 to 2008, Georgia has 14 counties, among the nations 100 fastest growing counties, second only to Texas. Georgia is also known as the Peach State and Empire State of the south. Atlanta is the capital and largest city inhabited.
Georgia is bordered on the south of Florida, on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and South Carolina, west to Alabama and Florida in the extreme southwest, north of Tennessee and North Carolina. In the northern part of the state in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a mountain in a wide range of mountain system in the Appalachians. In the central Piedmont extends from the foothills to the fall line, where the river in fall on the continental coastal plain in the southern part of the country. Highest point in Georgia is Brasstown bald, 4784 feet, the lowest point is sea level.
With an area of 59,424 square miles, Georgia is ranked 24th in size among the 50 U.S. states. Georgia is the largest state east of the Mississippi River in terms of land area, although the fourth largest after Michigan, Florida, and the total area in Wisconsin, a term which includes expanses of water such as the State claimed the territory.
