About Iowa...
Iowa is a state located in the Midwestern region of the United States, an area often called "American interior." It derives its name from the Ioway people, one of many American Indian tribes that occupied the country at the time of European research. Iowa is part of the French colony of New France. After the Louisiana Purchase, settlers laid the foundation for the agriculture-based economy in the heart of the corn belt. Iowa is often known as the "Food Capital of the World", but the Iowa economy, culture and landscape are varied. In the mid and late 20th century, Iowa's farm transitioned to the diversified economy of advanced manufacturing, processing, financial services, biotechnology, and production of green energy. Iowa is one of the safest countries in which they live and that its population is among the most literate and best educated. Recent immigration from other countries and of countries grew Iowa and diversity of the population. Des Moines is Iowa's capital and largest city. Iowa is bordered by the Mississippi River in the east, the Missouri River and Big Sioux River in the west and the northern boundary is a line along 43 degrees 30 minutes north latitude. The southern border of the Des Moines River and along a line about 40 degrees, 35 minutes north of it, as decided by the Supreme Court of the United States after the unresolved dispute between Iowa and Missouri known as the Honey War. Iowa has 99 counties and 100 towns county because Lee County has two. The state capital, Des Moines, is located in Polk County.
