About Alaska... Alaska is the largest of the United States by area, which is located in north-western edge is the North American continent with Canada to the east, the Arctic Ocean to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the west and south, with Russia in further western Bering Strait. Approximately half of the 683,478 residents of Alaska, which lies within the Anchorage metropolitan area. Since 2007, remains the least densely populated state of Alaska.

Area was purchased Alaska from the Russian Empire after Western Union stopped construction of the first electric telegraph line which ran from California to the coast of North America through the Bering Strait, continuing to Moscow and to the telegraph network. Despite the 3 million U.S. dollars investment in the U.S. for Russian-American telegraph dispatch, work stopped at the end competing transatlantic telegraph cable. U.S. realized the potential for continued service to Moscow and sent Secretary of State William H. SEWARD to negotiate with the Russian Ambassador to fund the remaining phases of the telegraph lines. Russia does not consider the possibilities for financing, Alaska offered up in exchange for the value of Russian-American telegraph. Russians fear that if they do not sell Russian North America will be taken by those of western expansion in the United States and Canada. They tried to play a prospective buyer than another bid for the start of the war, but largely succeeded.

U. S. Senate approved the purchase of Alaska from the Russian Empire on 30 March 1867, for 7.2 million dollars in two minutes every morning, about five cents per hectare. Country past several administrative changes before becoming organized territory on 11 May 1912 and 49th States United States 3rd January 1959. The name "Alaska" was already introduced in the Russian colonial time, when used only in the peninsula and is derived from the Aleut alaxsxaq, which means "earth" or more literally "the object towards which the action of the sea is directed." It is also known ALYESKA is a "great country", an Aleut word derived from the same root.
