Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, often colloquially called the PA of its postal abbreviation, which manages the archaic Penn. and Penn. as a common abbreviation by natives and Northeasterners, is a state located in the northeastern and middle Atlantic regions of the United States. State borders Delaware and Maryland in the south, West Virginia in the southwest, the west Ohio, New York and the water border with Canada to the north and New Jersey in the east. State's most populous city of Philadelphia.
Pennsylvania is known as the cornerstone of the State in 1802, located in the central part of the location of the original Thirteen Colonies forming the United States. Pennsylvania is called the "principle of the state," because the number of important American documents signed in a country such as the Declaration of Independence. This was also the economic principle of the state, having both the industry common to the North passing of such commodities as Conestoga wagons and rifles, and the common agricultural production in southern feed, fiber, food and tobacco. Another one of Pennsylvania's nicknames is the Quaker State; in colonial times, it was known officially as the Quaker Province, in recognition of Quaker William Penn's first Government of the Pennsylvania constitution that guarantees freedom of conscience. He knew of the hostility Quakers faced when opposed religious ritual, taking oaths, violence, war and military service, and what they viewed as ostentatious frippery. Pennsylvania has 51 miles of coastline along Lake Erie and 57 miles from shore along the Delaware estuary.
