About South Carolina...
South Carolina is a U.S. state in the Deep South. Georgia is bordered on the south and North Carolina to the north. Originally part of the province of Carolina, Province of South Carolina was one of the 13 colonies that declared independence from the British Crown during the American Revolution. On the colony was originally named in honor of King Charles I, as Carolus is Latin for Charles. South Carolina was the first state to vote for the extract from the Union and was a founder of the state of the confederate States of America. According to estimates by the United States Census Bureau, state population in 2008 and was 4,479,800 ranked 24th among U.S. states.
South Carolina is composed thirty six geographic areas, whose boundaries roughly parallel the northeast / southwest Atlantic coastline. In the southeastern part of the state's coastal zone, with the lowest elevations, which is divided into three separate areas, the Grand Strand, in the Santee River Delta and the Barrier Islands. In the north-west (inland) are coastal plains, often divided into the outer and inner coastal plain, also known as the Lowcountry. Further inland, and were in the amount of Sandhills, which is South Carolina's fall line. Inland from the Sandhills is the Piedmont, which is hilly, and contains many major cities. Regions with the highest elevation, in the northwest of the state, the Blue Ridge Region is a mountainous area which is the smallest region.
